In an unfortunate turn of events, the Organization known as the Westboro Baptist has turned its proselytizing ire of hate towards the residents of Maui County. Why? Well… though their explanation might be shall we say more “fire and brimstoney,” than ours. Simply put there is a transgender teen who wants to play volley ball. Yep that’s it, just volleyball.

In August of 2019 an article was written by the Maui News titled, KSM girls volleyball roster includes transgender player

“A transgender athlete at Kamehameha Schools Maui switched from the boys to the girls volleyball team because she now identifies as a female.”

Clearly, we don’t mean to be glib or overtly sarcastic. But ok it’s 2020 folks and I could go on but as we know there are many who do not understand, and moreover do not want to understand. And that vacuum leaves room for; you guessed it, the WBC and their need to fundraise via lawsuit. If you are familiar with these folks, We are sorry, if not you might remember them from such hits as “GOD hates FAGS”, or “Thank God for Dead Soldiers” So full of charm and wit and thoughtless prose.

With all of this now said we encourage you to meet up with the counter protest across from the Queen Kaahumanu Shopping Center at the UH Maui College at 7 am. Bright and early! To be sure we will all be having our coffee and waiving our signs. Always remember, you are loved, you matter, and it does in fact get better…

One last very important detail. DO NOT ENGAGE THE WBC! UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. Just smile and know (for the time being) there is still a separation of CHURCH and STATE and that makes them crazy!! You too have a First Amendment Right. Love is Love and you have the right to be whomever you are no matter what anybody says!
